As the prevalence of diabetes mellitus increases, it is expected that diabetic retinopathy/maculopathy and diabetic macular edema will also continue to rise in the future. This Translational Science Symposium will highlight the challenges, in particular the increasing prevalence, therapeutic approaches from basic science and early clinical research as well as methods for a better imaging related classification of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic maculopathy.
