Fr09-01 New treatment options in ocular surface and periocular tumorsAvailability of immunotherapy and targeted therapy for melanomas and squamous cell carcinomas offers new possibilities for patients with locally advanced ocular surface (conjunctival) and periocular cutaneous malignancies with orbital invasion who would otherwise have orbital exenteration or radical highly morbid surgery as the only option. Rationale for multidisciplinary management of such cases and individual cases that were treated with a combination of neoadjuvant drug therapy followed by surgery will be discussed in this session.- Bita Esmaeli (Houston, USA)
Fr09-02 Aniridia: pathogenesis, genetics, clinic, grading and therapeutic prospects
Aniridia is a pan-ocular disease that is challenging for ophthalmologists due to the multiple eye structures affected at a young age. Here an overview will be given of the anterior eye structures, how these are affected in utero and after birth, the resulting clinical implications, and how phenotype is controlled by genetic mutation in the PAX6 gene. Finally, we review emerging therapeutic options for aniridia which are in an early development phase.- Neil Lagali (Linköping, S)
