Topcon Healthcare celebrates two major milestones

Topcon Healthcare, a global leader in diagnostic devices and digital healthcare solutions for eye care, was pleased to celebrate two major milestones at its headquarters for Europe, Middle East and Africa., Topcon Europe Medical B.V. on 12 November 2025 – their 55th anniversary in Europe, alongside the official opening of its new European office in Capelle aan den IJssel, the Rotterdam metropolitan area.

The event brought together company leadership, international dignitaries, business partners and local government representatives, underscoring Topcon’s continued commitment to innovation, global collaboration and the future of eye healthcare.

A Dual-Location Celebration

The day began at the World Trade Centre Rotterdam, where 36 invited guests attended a formal ceremony hosted by Mr. Shigehiro Ogino. The program featured keynote speeches linking Topcon’s innovations to ongoing scientific, governmental and international partnerships across the Netherlands.

Mr. Takashi Eto, President & CEO of Topcon Corporation, highlighted the longstanding connection between the Japanese community and the Rotterdam region, noting the deep cultural and business ties between Japan and the Netherlands.

Mr. Hideyuki Takizawa, Managing Executive Officer, General Manager of Eye Care Business of Topcon Corporation, shared reflections on Topcon’s past technological achievements and outlined the company’s forward-looking vision for innovation in eye health. 

Mr. Robert Tans, Director of Economic Affairs, Municipality of Rotterdam, emphasised the regional economic value of innovative companies like Topcon.

A Building that Matches the Ambitions of the Organisation

Guests later travelled to Capelle aan den IJssel, where 90 participants joined the official opening of the new office. A ceremonial ribbon cutting marked the formal opening of the new building after which participants were offered guided tours of the newly designed workspace. 

The new office features a modern and sustainable design which is aligned with and supports the direction from the Board to implement the ISO 14001 environmental management system. It also offers employees and visitors enhanced collaboration zones, training spaces, meeting rooms and relaxation areas. Topcon’s previous building had become too outdated for the organisation’s evolving needs.

This new office is modern, sustainable and future-proof, and facilitates collaboration — a perfect symbol of where Topcon is heading. We are particularly pleased that the sustainable design of this space supports our implementation the ISO 14001 environmental management system, an important marker of our commitment to ensuring a sustainable future for all.” 

Additional speakers at the event included:

  • Mr. Daisuke Nakano, Vice Ambassador of Japan, who spoke on the historical relationship between Japan and the Netherlands.
  • Ms. Ellen Smit, Managing Director of Rotterdam Square, who reflected on her recent visit to Topcon Headquarters and the importance of having Topcon’s healthcare expertise anchored in the Rotterdam innovation ecosystem.
