The December 2025 issue of the VDCO's scientific and clinical journal “Optometry & Contact Lenses (OCL)” is focused on the topic of “Vision and Driving.”

Leading scientists and clinicians from Germany, the USA, and Colombia discuss the following topics:

  • Vision requirements for obtaining a driver’s licence in Europe and the USA
  • Vision and Driving – Physiological basics and considerations with regard to spectacle lens
  • solutions
  • Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity during defocusing depending to luminance
  • The effects of luminance, contrast and glare on visual acuity

The papers provide an up-to-date overview of the entire field of vision and driving and are certainly of interest to the ECOO community.

All four papers will be published in German in the German-language OCL—three papers will be published in English as open access articles on the English OCL website (https://www.ocl-

online.de/en).

Optometry & Contact Lenses (OCL) is the official peer-review journal of the Association of German Contact Lens Specialists and Optometrists e.V. (VDCO). The first issue of OCL was published in July/August 2021. OCL is currently indexed in: CINAHL (EBSCO) and Google Scholar; MEDLINE/PubMed® is pending.

OCL publishes original research articles, reviews, and clinical case reports focusing on ophthalmic optics, optometry, ophthalmology, and related disciplines. OCL also contains interviews with leading researchers, clinicians, and other individuals affiliated with the subjects covered by the journal, as well as book reviews and association information from VDCO.
