Topics:
Photosensitivity is a common symptom in both inherited and acquired neurological conditions. While all of us encounter circumstances where the amount or quality of light is bothersome, these patients have a lower threshold for light tolerance. Patients demonstrate not only increased sensitivity to bright illumination but may also be impaired in dim illumination. They are also affected indoors as well as outdoors. Their condition is different from the photosensitivity of ocular disease. This course will review the neurological conditions associated with photosensitivity, simple optometric evaluation and how lenses, prisms, filters and tints are used for treatment.Author Information: Cathy Stern, OD
