It is specifically designed for ophthalmic health professionals who will be taking on new tasks and roles in this growing digital health economy.     Course Overview

    This course introduces practical guidance on how to set up, implement, and support a medical retina virtual clinic in the context of the NHS long-term plan which emphasises the use of eHealth and telemedicine systems to address the global health challenge of eye disease. It covers diagnostic imaging for ocular diseases with an emphasis on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and OCT Angiography (OCTA) acquisition and interpretation in macular diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and hydroxycholorquine maculopathy.

    Course Structure

    This short course is aimed at working professionals who wish to advance their knowledge through postgraduate-level study, without the time or financial commitment required to undertake a face to face course. You will take two modules that are designed to give you an in-depth knowledge of diagnostic imaging in ophthalmology along with a pragmatic overview of telemedicine and digital health with an emphasis of application in the setting of a medical retinal virtual clinic. The module will be delivered over 2-weeks with 16 hours of online content. On the final day of the course you will have a two-hour interactive online discussion and case studies with the course tutors.

    Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Demonstrate knowledge of telemedicine and digital health in terms of how it has evolved and its current and anticipated future use
    • Demonstrate knowledge of risk stratification criteria used to triage patients into diagnostic imaging clinics and fail-safe requirements for these services
    • Demonstrate knowledge of a range of web-based technologies and digital solutions used in medical retina diagnostic clinics
    • Develop strategic thinking on how to set up and deliver telemedicine and digital health in the area of ophthalmology through formulating appropriate questions and utilizing evidence
    • Identify a variety of outcomes and diagnosis that can be obtained through OCT-retinal imaging and the use of telemedicine
    • Demonstrate knowledge of ocular diagnostic imaging and treatment of several common retinal diseases
    • Engage with and reflect upon the criteria by which diagnostic imaging can and should be used for determining and treating retinal eye disease
    Accreditation

    This course has been awarded 16 CPD points by The Royal College of Ophthalmologists. A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the course.
