    1. Polymax 120c – Quiet Running
      by Michael Barrett, BCO, BADO
Suggestions for setting up the Polymax 120C for silent running with a compressed air tank rather than an air compressor. We will cover the types of connections, hoses and shut off valves. We will also stress the importance of documentation, checking the equipment, connections and maintenance.

    3. The Pre-Fitting Consultation for New Patients
by Joseph LeGrand, BCO, BADO, FASO
In this short Mini-Max I will explain the advantages I see in meeting a new patient for a consultation, prior to the patient coming in for the fitting of the prosthetic eye. This practice can alleviate stress, for patient and ocularist, and prevent some miscues.
    4. Don’t Let the Blues Get You Down
      by Emily Anderson, BCO, BADO
A dive into the pro’s and cons of modern societies over exposure to blue light and the increase of health risks associated. What is blue light? Why does this matter? What can we do to protect ourselves?

    Course #751W: Painting Materials Workshop

    • William Ortiz, BCO, BADO (oils)
In our constantly updating, technological world, one starts to question the need for handmade items!" The focus of this topic will be the use of artists oils in the replication of the human iris. Images of the anatomy and structure of the iris will be presented as well as a demonstration on "how to" duplicate the iris on an opaque surface.
    • Marie-France Clermont, BCO, BADO, FASO (pencils)
This session will include a demonstration of reverse painting technique via a video, using a combination of color pencils and dry pigments. Each participant is required to bring an iris button with a pupil incorporated and a few brushes. The ASO will provide mono-poly, monomer, receptacles, the pencils and the pigments.
    • Bridget Kinneer, BCO (dry pigments)
For this portion, you will see a short PowerPoint with videos of her method of painting an artificial eye with dry pigments. Then she will assist in the workshop where her method can be attempted on a blank shape.
    • David LeGrand, BCO, BADO, FASO (lacquers)
This section will provide a brief slide presentation on the use of acrylic lacquers to paint the iris of a prosthesis. Then participants will have the opportunity to paint an iris using this method.
